The practical training will be conducted mainly from our jetty, on the House Reef. There is a mix of shallow confined water, and deeper open water here, making it ideal to practice the different skills of the rescue course. You will learn how to recognize and respond to both tired and panicked divers both underwater and at the surface. You’ll practice response from shore with a range of different props, such as life rings and floating devices. Your navigation skills will also be put to the test, using different search patterns to efficiently locate a missing diver,
One of the most challenging (and important) skills you will learn is surfacing an unresponsive diver, and towing them back to land, all whilst performing in-water rescue breaths and removing their equipment. You will also learn techniques on how to exit the water with an unresponsive diver, both with and without assistance. This may sound difficult, but it will be broken down into smaller steps for you, and you can expect to repeat them more than a few times.
