Take the first step in your professional diving career by becoming a PADI Divemaster! Located in the heart of the coral triangle and blessed with some of the highest marine biodiversity in the world, Scuba Junkie is a truly special place to become a Divemaster. Working closely with our multilingual, friendly and experienced instructors, you’ll expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills as you become a dive professional. We will introduce you not only to the role of a PADI Divemaster, but also to the incredible diversity of marine life here, and to your responsibility as a dive professional to help preserve the marine environment.

At Scuba Junkie you are guaranteed a very high level of dive training. We have been running Divemaster courses for years and have worked out the ideal Divemaster program to make you the best possible DM at the end of your course. We truly care about offering high quality training, and aim to do more than just “ticking the boxes”. We have some of the best diving in the world right on our doorstep and you will work your way through the Divemaster course whilst experiencing world-class diving! 

Our instructors are multilingual, friendly, experienced and knowledgeable. During the course, you will have a main instructor, who will be your mentor. You can count on them to provide support and advice throughout the course. You will also have the chance to learn from different instructors - as each instructor is different, you can be sure to learn something new from each and every one of them!

At Scuba Junkie we take great pride in our conservation work. Our care for the environment runs deep through the organization and everything we do on a daily basis.

Weeks one to four are dedicated to the core requirements of the course. Your time will be split between theory sessions and workshops, designed to give you all the background knowledge expected of a PADI Divemaster, and practical in-water sessions. Practical sessions will range from assisting instructors on a variety of PADI courses from open water to rescue, learning how to safely guide certified divers in a variety of dive sites and conditions, fine tuning your important rescue skills, conducting your own dive site mapping project, practicing demonstrating the 24 basic scuba skills, and participating in deep dive and search and recovery workshops. We’ll also assess your swimming skills and if there’s time, of course throw in a fun dive or 2! During this part of the training you can expect to log around 30-50 dives and spend 5-6 days a week in the water. You will become part of our team, and learn all aspects of working as a PADI divemaster.

We offer all our divemaster candidates the option of staying on for an additional 2 week internship, giving you time to put everything you have learned in to practice. Your 2 weeks will be spent shadowing our experienced divemasters, and practicing guiding groups under supervision around the outstanding reefs of Mabul and Kapalai. You’ll get valuable real life experience with problem solving, critter spotting, and generally helping to make sure that the day to day running of the dive shop goes smoothly. You can expect to log a further 30 or more dives during your internship.

Diving equipment is available for you to use free of charge during your course. If you are thinking of working as a divemaster after your course, we highly recommend to buy some of your own gear, such as mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit. There are certain items that you must have your own personal set of to complete the course. These items are: Dive computer, compass, white slate, surface marker buoy, tank banger and dive knife. If you do not already own these, you can buy them at a discounted rate on arrival at our retail shop.

During your divemaster course you will be based in our dormitory at Mabul Beach Resort, our beautiful eco friendly resort on Mabul Island – where you are just minutes away from the dive sites. The accommodation is full board, including breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner as well as water, tea and coffee. Private rooms are also available, please enquire if you wish to upgrade your package to a private room.

Our Divemaster course packages and internships offer incredible value for money, they include dorm style accommodation with full meals at our Mabul Beach Resort, and you will eat and sleep literally just a couple of minutes walk from the dive sites. You'll become fully immersed in the diving world, and become part of our Scuba Junkie crew.

The divemaster course starts on the 1st of each month and lasts for 4 weeks. If you haven't completed your Rescue course, EFR or 40 dives, then you will need to arrive in time to complete these before your divemaster course starts. We offer all future Divemaster Candidates discounted rates on fun dives & courses, and you can even fit in a Sipadan dive or two in your package if you wish!
