what does the schedule look like?

You will meet your instructor in the morning to collect your dive equipment and fill in the necessary paperwork. Your instructor will give a short introduction to basic dive theory, including breathing and equalization techniques, how to use the equipment, hand signals and regulator and mask clearing techniques. You will also go through the importance of interacting responsibly with marine life, and what marine life you might see on your dive. At the end there is a short quiz (10 yes/no questions) for you to answer, to make sure you have understood everything clearly.

skill practise

Next you will gear up, and progress to our training platform in confined water. You’ll practise blowing some bubbles on the surface, and once you’re ready, kneel down on the platform - the water here is shallow enough for you to stand up. Once settled underwater, your instructor will demonstrate the following skills for you to practise.

- Breathing underwater
- Regulator clearing
- Regulator recovery
- Mask clearing
- Equalization techniques

open water dive

Having successfully completed the skills, it’s time to head out on a tour of the dive site, under close supervision of your PADI instructor. Diving to a maximum depth of 12m, explore our House Reef, and be amazed by the underwater world! You’ll be able to see plenty of colourful fish including Nemo, pufferfish, crocodile fish, and huge green turtles!

After your first dive you can take a rest whilst enjoying a snack in our restaurant, looking through the fish books with your instructor, and learning the names of all the incredible marine creatures you’ve just encountered! Then it is time for dive number two - this time, you do not need to repeat the skills, you can just head straight out to the dive site and enjoy the underwater world once again!

After lunch you may choose to spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beach with a good book, or maybe with a cold drink in our jetty bar. If you’re not ready for the adventure to be over, you can head out for a third and final dive. If you are feeling confident in the water, and the schedule allows, you may even be able to head out on the boat to discover other amazing Mabul dive sites!

If you enjoyed your try diving experience, you may already find yourself planning for the next step - the full Open Water Course - which will train you to dive with a buddy independent of a dive professional. If you have the time, you can talk to your instructor about how to sign up for the course with us!

“Our first day at Mabul was a 'Discover Scuba' experience. Cannot recommend the experience highly enough, we opted to do an additional third dive that day, and booked another 'Discover Scuba' experience for our final day on the island. On our first ever dive, within 5 minutes of being properly underwater, we saw a giant turtle - such a beautiful experience!”
